A REPORT OF DISTRICT CHIEF EXECUTIVE’S ENGAGEMENT WITH THE CHIEFS AND PEOPLE OF TAPA ABOTOASE COMMUNITY

INTRODUCTION
As part of the District Assembly’s bid to ensure that communities are involved in development processes, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Biakoye District, Hon. Millicent Kabuki Carboo along with the District Coordinating Director (DCD), the Presiding Member (PM) and District Planning and Co-ordinating Unit members engaged Tapa Abotoase community at Abotase roundabout to deliberate on matters affecting the development of the area.
The ceremony was graced by the attendance of Okoforobour Baffour Kwame Asante II, the Paramount Chief of Tapa Traditional Council and his elders, businessmen and women, farmers, fishermen, traders, opinion leaders of the area etc
DISTRICT CHIEF EXECUTIVE’S REMARK
The District Chief Executive in a brief remarks appreciated the people at the gathering for coming. She added that Abotoase is the internal revenue hub of the District because of the market and therefore her attention of developing the town and market cannot be erased. She therefore employed all to fully participate in the discus to address developmental challenges of the community.
DEVELOPMENTAL NEEDS OF THECOMMUNITY
Several concerns were raised by the people of the community among such issues are:
i. Construction of Abotoase market roads to aid movement to and fro of the market
ii. Construction of Abotoase clinic to facilitate health service delivery
iii. Regular cleaning of Abotoase market
iv. Beautification of the Abotoase roundabout
v. Encroaching Abotoase market land
DISCUSSIONS
Okoforobour Baffour Kwame Asante II pleaded to Hon. DCE to consider the construction of Abotoase market which has been stalled for reasons he is not aware. He stated that there has been constant reduction in the number of people who attend the market because of bad nature of the road.
The Hon. DCE in her response, explained that work is still ongoing but there had been some technical issues the contractor has to address for work to resume so she will pursue the issue as matter of urgency.
The market Queen of Abotoase market also raised serious concern about how some people are building in the market making buying and selling very difficult. On the same market, a trader expressed worry about the way part of the market choked with refuse.
The Queen mother of Tapa Abotose also said the council has acquired land for the construction of Clinic facility to cater for the growing population.
In her response to the above concerns, the Hon. DCE said plans are far advanced to award the construction of Polyclinic in the community. She also said she and her management has taken note of all other concerns of the people and will address them accordingly.
CONCLUSION
Okoforobour Baffour Kwame Asante II and the community members appreciated the Hon. DCE and her Management and pledged to support the Assembly to develop the community. Hon.DCE and DPCU members also used the opportunity to inspect the ongoing construction of Abotoase market shed and meatshop.
