A REPORT OF DISTRICT CHIEF EXECUTIVE’S ENGAGEMENT WITH THE CHIEFS AND PEOPLE TAPA AMANFROM COMMUNITY

INTRODUCTION
To ensure that there is holistic and participatory development in the communities in the Biakoye District, the Hon. District Chief Executive, Comfort A. Attah and members of the District Planning and Co-ordinating Unit engaged the Chiefs and elders, community members, Fulani Herdsmen and other opinion leaders of Tapa Amanfrom. Among the main reasons for the engagement was to address Fulani herdsmen menace in the area
The event which took place at Amanfrom community center was attended by Chief of Tapa Amanfrom, Nana Ntim Gyakari IV and his elders, Community members, Fulani Herdsmen, farmers, fishermen, traders, opinion leaders of the area etc
A total number of 56 attendance was recorded constituting of 17 female and 39 males
DISTRICT CHIEF EXECUTIVE’S REMARK
The District Chief Executive remarked that Agriculture is the backbone of every developing country and community so there must be peaceful coexistence between food crop and animal farmers to promote food security. She encouraged all to put before her the challenging issues they are faced with for deliberation.
DEVELOPMENTAL NEEDS OF TAPA AMANFROM
Highlights of the concerns were raised by the people are as follows:
i. Destruction of farmland by ranching cattle
ii. Rehabilitation of dysfunction borehole in the community
iii. Completion of Tata Amanfron CHPS compound for facilities health service delivery
iv. Encroachment of Tapaman Senior High Land
v. Relocation of community refuse dumping site

DISCUSSIONS
Mr Kumi Acheampong, the chief farmer of the community lamented how Fulani herdsmen have been allowing their cattle to raid farmlands in the night. He asked the Hon. DCE to do sometime about the activities of the herdsmen. The Hon. DCE responded that there have been series of engagement with traditional authorities on whose land the Fulani Herdsmen are operating. She assured the community that a roadmap for cattle ranching will soon be drawn for peace to prevail.
A community member also raised concern on the delay in the construction of Tapa Amanfrom CHPS compound. The Hon. DCE responded to the concern that, the work is at about 75 percent completion level and the Assembly will ensure that the project is completed as soon as possible to solve their problem in relation to healthcare.
A teacher at Tapaman Senior High School requested the attention of the District Assembly to secure the school’s land from encroachers. According to him, farmers have encroached the land and attempts to stop the action has yielded no result. The Hon. DCE responded that management will meet with the school and traditional authorities to solve the issue.
The Assemblyman of the areas also requested management to address an overflowing refuse dump site where the community is requesting for relocation. The Hon. DCE on the face of this promised to send the Environmental Health officer to address the issue
CONCLUSION
The engagement ended successfully with all participants appreciating the Assembly management for the engagement. DPUC members with the Hon. District Chief Executive took the opportunity to visit the ongoing projects in the community.
