“Tree for Life” Initiative kicks off in Biakoye District – Bowiri Senior High School

On June 5, 2025, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Biakoye visited Bowiri Senior School to participate in the “Tree for Life” programme, a government initiative aimed at promoting environmental sustainability. The DCE was accompanied by the Commander of the Forestry Department, Hon. Assembly members, Party members, Assembly staff, and the Presiding Member.

*Key Highlights:*

1. Tree Planting:

A total of 20 trees were planted around the school farm and premises. The DCE planted one tree in front of the school and assigned a prefect to take care of it. The Hon. Presiding Member also planted a tree adjacent to the school, entrusting the boys’ prefect with its care.

2. Importance of Trees:

The Commander of the Forestry Department educated the students and community members on the significance of trees, emphasizing their role in absorbing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and producing oxygen which is essential for the survival of humans and other animals . He added that cutting down trees poses a threat to life.

3. Advice to Students:

The DCE urged the students to take their studies seriously and encouraged them to plant more trees. He emphasized the importance of environmental conservation and sustainability.

4. Inspection of Facilities:

Following the tree planting ceremony, the DCE inspected the school’s dormitory and bathrooms. He noted that the facilities require immediate renovation.

Closing Remarks:

The DCE expressed gratitude to the students, teachers, and community members for their participation in the “Tree for Life” Programme. He commended the efforts of the Forestry Department and other stakeholders in supporting environmental sustainability awareness.

This event marks a significant step in promoting environmental sustainability in the Biakoye District, and it is expected that the planted trees will thrive under the care of the students and Authorities.
