The Biakoye District Assembly celebrated its 40th Farmer’s Day on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Nkonya Ahenkro. The theme for the celebration was “Building Climate Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security.”
Present at the celebration were Nanai Okoto Kwame Tegyi II ,the Paramount chief of Nkonya Ahenkro Traditional Area, Nana Kwasi Tia 1 Gyasehene Representing Tapamanhene/vice President, Oti Regional House of chiefs), Nana Okogeaman Aseidu Koram Chief of Apeso Kubi Traditional Area,Nana Osiadieyor Kwabena Salo V Chief of Bowiri Tradional Area ,Nananom, elders, staff of the Agric Dept, the NPP PC for Biakoye, some Assembly members, BDA staff,Muslim Leaders, GES Director and community members were also present.
The event was chaired by Nanai Okoto Kwame Tegyi II ,the Paramount chief of Nkonya Ahenkro Traditional Area
The District Coordinating Director (DCD), Abdul-Aziz Jafaru represented the Acting District Chief Executive and addressed the gathering on the government’s flagship agriculture programs.
Rev. Harrison Worlasi Adorblosu who is the Director of Agriculture for Biakoye District Assembly , also expressed gratitude to farmers and fisher folks for their resilience.
The Agric department outlined various activities undertaken, including flood victim support, input grant support, and tree crops development. The DDA reiterated the need for additional staff to support the department’s efforts.
Eight hardworking farmers were recognized, with Mr. Abubakari Salih Gariba winning the District Best Farmer award. He received a motorbike, knapsack machine, and other prizes.
The chairman commended the acting DCE and other officials for supporting the celebration. He urged participants to take advantage of government programs and expressed optimism for farmers winning awards at the national level.
