The Biakoye District Assembly under the leadership of the District Chief Executive, Hon. Millicent Carboo in collaboration with eco-Zoil and Zoomlion, (a subsidiary of Jospong Group of Companies on Friday, 1st July 2022 organized a clean-up exercise and distributed 200 pieces of life jacket to Canoe, Inland Fishermen and Boat Owners Association at the Abotoase Lake side.
The event which was preceded by media publication on LOOK FM by the Hon. DCE and DCD was aimed at educating folks on safety on the Volta Lake. In attendance were the DCE and her entourage from the Assembly, the Regional Coordinator of Eco-Zoil, District Director of ZoomLion, Nana Bambuo Osei Kumeni (a representative of the Paramount chief of Tapa Traditional Area), executives of Boat, Inland Fishermen and Canoe Owners Association and the Market King & Queen.

In an address delivered by the Hon. DCE, she entreated the fisher folks to keep the lake side clean, desist from using treated mosquito nets for fishing fingerlings and to make good use of the jacket since the statistics of death during water transport is alarming.
She further called on all gathered to disregard all falsehoods being peddled by unscrupulous individuals regarding the cost of beautifying the Abotoase Roundabout. She also touched on Premix fuel. She said that, the relocation of the premix tanks was not done in her own accord rather, it was a recommendation from the District Security Council (DISEC) to avoid a looming tragedy as the proximity of the tanks to the market was too close in addition to the bad nature of the road.
Other speakers were the representative of the Tapa Traditional Council and the Chairman of the Boat Owners Association who thank the DCE for thinking about their safety and promised to ensure that the Jackets will be put into good use to serve its purpose.
