A REPORT OF DISTRICT CHIEF EXECUTIVE’S ENGAGEMENT WITH NKONYA NTSUMURU COMMUNITY

INTRODUCTION

The Hon DCE, Comfort A. Attah with members of the District Planning and Co-ordinating Unit engaged the Chiefs and members of Nkonya Ntsumuru Community to discuss ways to establish market at Nkonya Ahenkro.
The reason for the engagement is to plead the community’s participation and the use of purported construction of market shed at Nkonya Ahenkro.
The engagement which occurred on Wednesday 18th of August 2021, at 9:15am to 12:00pm at the Nkonya Ntsumuru Chiefs Palace was respected by Nanai Yaw Osiakwan, Benkuhene of Nkonya Traditional Council and a Chief of Ntsumuru, and his elders, teachers, traders and all opinion leaders. In all, a total number of 49 people, composed of 31 males and 18 females attended the engagement.
DISTRICT CHIEF EXECUTIVE’S REMARK
The District Chief Executive remarked by thanking the congregation for honoring her invitation and stated that the development of the communities in the District is paramount to her and pleaded that concerns of the people with regards to development be bring to light for deliberation.
DEVELOPMENTAL ISSUES AT THE ENGAGEMENT
A few worries were raised by individuals of the local area. Among such issues are:
1. Site for the construction of market shed for Nkonya Ntsumuru, Nkonya Ahenkro and Nkonyan Akloba
2. Possible market day for the market after the construction of the sheds
3. The supply and installation of Street lights to the community
4. The Assembly Plan and Programmes for the Community for the year

DISCUSSIONS
Concern about the acquisition of a litigation free land for the construction of market shed for Nkonya Ntsumuru, Nkonya Ahenkro and Nkonyan Akloba was raised by a Carpenter. He is worried about how construction materials meant for the project is wearing out. He proposed that the old market structure should be renovated for the time been for the people.
But market women expressed an opposing view about how the dilapidated old market shed is and the possibility of posing danger if revisited. The Hon. DCE reacting to this proposed there will be more consultation with the chiefs and engineers of the Assembly to solve the problem in the quickest time.
Akua Kumah, a trader speaking for market women proposed a rotational market day for the market’s operation.
The people in a different issue expressed worries about the removal of Electricity Meters they acquired from ECG. The people vowed to resist any attempt by the Energy Institution to frustrate power supply to the community. But responding for the Hon. DCE, the Assemblyman of the area explained that processes are far advance to bring application forms to the applicant for re-application due to data capture issues.
A teacher from Nstumuru SDA Primary school wanted to know the developmental projects that the District Assembly is doing in the community. This afforded the Hon. DCE the opportunity to mention some of the project that are ongoing in the community including construction Of 1 No. 6 Unit Classroom Block At Nkonya-Ntsumuru SDA Primary School.

CONCLUSION
The engagement ended successfully with the Hon. DCE noting the concerns of the people for further action. Also, the Hon DCE and DPCU members used the opportunity to inspect the construction Of 1 No. 6 Unit Classroom Block at Nkonya-Ntsumuru SDA Primary School which is at 52% completion level
